Today, the need to coordinate different urban times is an unavoidable challenge, which cannot be ignored if a better balance between economic development and social cohesion is to be achieved.
The Barcelona City Council has introduced a package of measures and actions, designed to affect the new ways of organising time in the city and to adjust time-tables and urban customs to fit in better with the real rhythms of residents’ lives.
Assuming such an innovative challenge, which affects the city’s administration and operations, requires a new way of looking at daily reality, new ways of posing questions and new answers. The aim is to rethink the city in terms of time, bearing in mind the need of the population to reconcile different times and to organise them within the space of the city.
The City Council, sensitive to emerging phenomena and strongly committed to finding effective answers to new problems, has set off down the path of new policies of time, with the aim of designing a model of city that takes into account people’s time requirements in order to improve the quality of daily life.
The Barcelona City Council’s action plan brings together a series of measures, covering different areas of municipal responsibility, to organise time in the city.
